Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A temporary residence card (TRC) is a longer residence confirmation document issued by a competent authority, usually valid for 1-5 years depending on the type; while a long-term visa/short-term visa can be only a few months to 1 year and must be applied for/renewed many times. A TRC makes it easier for foreigners temporarily residing to open an account, apply for a driver’s license, and conduct civil transactions (depending on regulations).

Yes. Legal relatives (spouse, children under 18 years old or dependent children) are usually granted temporary residence cards under the family reunification program when they have a qualified sponsor. The relative’s documents can be submitted together with or after the sponsor has a valid application.

The renewal period depends on the type of card and the reason for residence: usually renewed every 1-2 years, or corresponding to the term of the work permit for foreign workers. To renew, you need to submit the application before the card expires according to regulations; PMH recommends completing the renewal procedure 30-45 days in advance to avoid risks.

There is no fixed number that applies to all cases; the issuance of a 5-year card to an investor depends on the scale and field of investment, capital level, actual role in the enterprise and compliance with current legal conditions. PMH will evaluate the specific application and advise on the possibility of applying for a 5-year card based on your documents.

PMH can submit the application on behalf of the customer if the customer authorizes it properly; some original/authorized documents may still require the customer to provide or be notarized from abroad (consular legalization) before submission.

TRC does not completely replace the work permit. Normally, foreign workers need a work permit as prescribed; TRC is issued for a period of time and based on the work permit or cases exempted from the permit (e.g. experts, managers under some conditions). It is necessary to check the specific case: PMH supports to determine whether a work permit is required or exempted.

When losing a temporary residence card, it is necessary to report to the local police station and submit an application for reissuance to the immigration office. The application usually includes a declaration form, identification papers, a report of loss and related documents; PMH assists in preparing the application and submitting it on behalf of the applicant.

The cost depends on the category (investor, worker, family reunification), consular legalization requirements and additional services (translation, notarization). PMH provides a transparent quote after understanding the specific category and documents.

Reference time: 2-3 days to prepare documents; 5-7 working days to appraise and issue cards; total about 7-10 days if the documents are complete. The time may be extended if foreign documents need to be legalized or the agency requests additional information.
